I'm sending out queries too and was on number three--on a roll--doing them quickly, substituting names and titles, double checking. Took a break and didn't get back to it until the next day---when I realized I had sent a query to an agent who had actually asked to see more of my work and I FAILED TO PUT THAT IN THE LETTER!!!

I was doing it quickly to avoid the pain of doing it at all. Lesson learned, as you said. With all the time and effort we put into the writing and everything else, best to avoid quick and tired. Maybe we should pencil it in for sometime in the spring...

I know. It's kind of stressful. I was doing a definite happy dance when I realized I could send it again and the agent would never know:)

Good luck with your hunt. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Oh, what a gift to have it be undelivered!

I've been sending out queries too and I check and recheck to make sure I have substituted the agent's name for "Dear Agent" and sensibly personalized the opening (if applicable) in my template. And then I reread the particular agent's submission request to make sure I'm sending the right number of pages asked for. And still I hesitate over that Send button, sure I've forgotten something. Very stressful ... and then there's the waiting ... :-)

Good topic. I actually think it kind of helps to be able to distinguish between writers and authors. There are so many people who write books and don't ever get them published. I've actually started thinking of my writing as more of a hobby lately, at least until (big if) I start selling some of my fiction. It's not exactly a cheap hobby either, but that's another topic. I guess you could say I'm a freelance writer/copy editor at this point and, definately, a wanna-be author! So funny, how I have a need to define myself. Gonna have to think about that. Nice blog!

Thanks for your comment Dr. Bibey. I know a lot of people work really hard at writing and face a lot of "You do what?" kind of attitude. Really, I'm just looking to simplify my life and deciding to leave that network helps a little. I feel lighter:)

I always say an author is a writer who has been published in at least two places.

I see this discussed from time to time online. The difference most often cited is that if you've published a book, you're an author. I presumed that meant they wouldn't feel they had the right to call themselves an author until their work was accounted worthy of being published. But why should that only apply to book length work?
